Chelsea willing to make £75m bid for “insane” EPL star to replace Mudryk

Chelsea are now willing to make an offer in the region of £75m for an “insane” Premier League player, who could be brought in to replace Mykhailo Mudryk, according to a report.

Enzo Maresca’s winger pursuit

The Blues’ recent downturn in form is perhaps a sign they need to strengthen in the summer if they are to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, despite the fact they have already spent big in an attempt to re-establish themselves as title challengers.

Since Todd Boehly took over the reins, the west Londoners have been extremely busy in the transfer market, but the issue is that not every signing has been a success, with several big-money arrivals struggling to adapt to life at Stamford Bridge.

Kalidou Koulibaly arrived in the Premier League with a stellar reputation, but his time in the capital was short-lived, failing to replicate his performances for Napoli, while more recently, Mudryk has also struggled.

The Ukrainian has appeared for just 146 minutes in the Premier League this season, failing to force his way into starting contention even prior to his suspension after failing a drug test.

As a result, Chelsea are now looking at potential replacements, and a report from Spain has revealed they are willing to make an offer of €90m (£75m) for Brighton & Hove Albion star Kaoru Mitoma, who has been very impressive this season.

The Blues are said to be great admirers of Mitoma, and there is a belief he would be an ideal fit for Enzo Maresca‘s style of play, given that he is able to operate on both wings.

Brighton may find it difficult to turn down such a huge offer for the Japanese winger, who is in line to become the latest player to leave the American Express Stadium for Stamford Bridge.

“Insane” Mitoma impressing once again

The 27-year-old has proven to be a fantastic signing for Brighton, with former manager Roberto De Zerbi bestowing high praise upon him during his time on the south coast.

“I have no words left for Mitoma. He’s really underrated but trust me, he’s so, so underrated. The world of football hasn’t understood the value of Mitoma. He can be an incredible player for any manager, not just for me. He’s insane.”

The Japan international has been in particularly good form as of late, picking up a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win against Manchester United, before finding the back of the net in Brighton’s 3-0 win against the Blues last time out.

That said, there are some doubts over whether a £75m fee would be justified, given that the Kawasaki-born winger’s attacking numbers in the Premier League are impressive, without being spectacular.

There are plenty of signs Mitoma could be a great signing for the Blues, but it may not be prudent to spend £75m on a player whose numbers indicate he is not yet in the world-class category.
